C2 provided architectural, structural and MEP engineering design services for the renovation of the historic building located at 600 Broadway in downtown Albany, NY. Our scope of work included assessing the building’s condition and restoring the interior spaces to preserve the historical character of the building. New ADA compliant toilet rooms are to be provided on each floor to help bring the building up to modern codes, while keeping the historic aspect of the building in mind to make it feel that the toilet rooms have been a part of the building, providing a seamless integration between new and historical.
These modernizations and renovations accommodate two new tenants: a law firm occupying the first and second floors, and a future tenant on the third floor. This allows for maximum flexibility for the building owners. Along with the interior renovations, our scope also included incorporating an elevator to service the building from the basement up to the third floor. The design placed the elevator on the exterior of the building to minimize disturbance to the interior space. This maximizes rentable floor space and minimizes disturbance to the historical elements inside the building.
New skylights on the third floor which have been long abandoned are to be re-activated, again trying to restore the building’s historic character.
