College plans to transform building in downtown Schenectady

Schenectady County Community College will move its workforce development program into a vacant building in downtown Schenectady, New York by fall 2015, nearly six years after the college acquired the building. The school is renovating the first floor of the three-story building at 201 State St., donated to SCCC in 2009 by the Kindl family. The workforce development program provides noncredit courses and job training.

More apartments for downtown Schenectady

Developer John Luke Hodorowski plans a $7 million, four-story apartment and office building at 242 Broadway, across from a $3 million apartment and office/retail building he completed last year. The Schenectady Planning Commission will review the project at its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19th at Schenectady City Hall. The existing building, with 18 apartments and office/retail space, is full or under contract, said Ray Gillen, chairman of the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority.

Office-residential project proposed in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY ? Want an upscale apartment in downtown Schenectady? Get in line. Demand for residential space downtown is so high that just one year after finishing a three-story residential-office building at Broadway and Hamilton Street, a local developer is looking to do the same thing again ? only bigger ? right across the street. Rotterdam developer John Luke Hodorowski wants to construct a four-story building at 242 Broadway that would house office space on the first floor and 39 upscale apartments on the top three floors. The project would cost $7 million and is slated to go before the City Planning Commission later this month.

Schenectady business accelerator wins $300,000 grant

NYBizLab, a business technology accelerator under construction in downtown Schenectady, New York has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the business accelerator wins $300,000 grant from the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority. The project is the brainchild of Transfinder CEO Antonio Civitella who constructed a $7 million headquarters for his transportation software development company in Schenectady last year.

New Socha building covers many angles

There's hardly a right angle to be found at the new Socha building on Route 50. The tiles in the lobby, the shape of the apartments and even the balconies have all been designed with interesting angles in mind. Ceilings feature angled, layered lines. Cabinets open to reveal everdeepening shelf space from one end to the other. Entire walls are made up of windows that offer views of the county airport to the south and leafy trees to the west.

Schenectady County Breaks Ground on New Unified Communications Center

Members of the Schenectady County Legislature were joined by New York Secretary of State Cesar A. Perales, local municipal leaders, and public safety officials to formally break ground on the new Schenectady County Unified Communications Center. The Groundbreaking formally begins the construction of a new centralized dispatch facility which will consolidate a fragmented emergency communications system into one county-wide dispatch center. Construction of the center is partially supported through a Local Government Efficiency Grant funded through the New York Department of State.

Work to begin on Socha project

GLENVILLE ? Work is scheduled to start in a couple weeks on a $10 million mixed-use project that Glenville officials say is a game-changer for the town. Developer William Socha is building a 60,000-square-foot, three-story structure on nearly 10 acres between his existing Socha Plaza and Socha Plaza South buildings on Route 50.
